Apple’s next-gen budget iPhone, i.e. iPhone SE 4, has been in the news ever since the company launched the iPhone SE 3 in 2022. Apple has scrapped plans to launch the iPhone SE 4 altogether, according to details shared by renowned Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo. A post on Medium Quo states that the company’s ‘supply chain has received instructions from Apple indicating that the 2024 iPhone SE 4 production and shipment plans have been canceled rather than delayed.’
Elaborating on the decision, Kuo said the move was due to concerns over the company’s in-house baseband chip.
For the unversed, Apple has been working on developing its own 5G modem for years. Earlier, reports suggested that Apple’s in-house 5G modem would debut in its iPhones in 2023 and going forward, Qualcomm would supply only 20 percent of the chipsets required by Apple in its iPhone models. However, a report of Ku Reports last year suggested that Apple’s plans to include its own 5G modems in 2023 iPhone models could be delayed because the chip’s performance is not satisfactory enough for use in iPhones and other Apple devices.
