Apple Pay later delayed to 2023 as it witnesses ‘technical and engineering’ setbacks


The Apple Pay Later feature is expected to be delayed until at least Spring 2023. Back at WWDC 2022, Apple announced a purchase of its own, Pay Later called Apple Pay Later. It was announced to roll out with the latest iOS 16 update, but it didn’t.

According to of bloomberg Mark Gurman, There have been some “significant” setbacks that will cause a delay in the launch. Notably, Apple Pay Later will allow users to make payments through Apple Pay and pay in four installments over six weeks without any interest.

A footnote on the Apple website suggests that the feature will be available in a “future update.” Gurman suggested that Apple hasn’t given a specific timeline for the feature, as the tech giant is unsure about when the feature will arrive. He revealed that it might not roll out until the release of iOS 16.4 which will ship in 2023.

According to Mark Gurman’s statement, “I hear there are significant technical and engineering challenges in rolling out the service, causing delays.”

For those unaware, Apple has been rumored to be working on this feature for over a year. In addition, the company also announced a subsidiary, Apple Financing, which handles credit checks and customer approvals.

Built-in Apple Wallet, the service is expected to roll out to users in the US. As per the report, “Apple Pay makes it easy to view, track and repay Apple Pay Later payments within Wallet. Users can apply for Apple Pay Later when they are checking out into Apple Pay or Wallet. Apple Pay is later available everywhere Apple Pay is accepted online or in-app using the MasterCard network.”

In other news, Apple has announced its Diwali sale in India, where buyers can avail up to Rs 7,000 off on the purchase of iPhones.
