Apple is planning to start manufacturing its AirPods in India soon. The company has reportedly asked its suppliers to shift some production of its AirPods and Beats branded headphones and earphones to India.
According to a report by Nikkei Asia, the iPhone maker is in talks with several of its suppliers to increase its production capabilities in India, including its audio devices. As a part of the move, Apple may start manufacturing AirPods and Beats devices in India as early as next year.
In response to the development, Foxconn, which also makes iPhones for the company in India, is gearing up to make Beats headphones in India. The contract manufacturer is planning to eventually start manufacturing Apple AirPods in the country.
Similarly, Luxshare Precision Industry and its affiliates, the contract manufacturer that already produces AirPods for the company in Vietnam and China, are also planning to help Apple make its wireless earphones in India. However, the company is focusing more on its Vietnamese AirPods operations at the time and hence it may be relatively slow to launch its AirPods and Beat headphones manufacturing capabilities in India. As per reports, the company is planning to expand its manufacturing capabilities in Tamil Nadu.
Notably, the move is a part of Apple’s plans to diversify its production capabilities to reduce its reliance on China amid rising tensions with the US and a strict zero-Covid policy, which has eroded its production capabilities in the past. has been interrupted.
It is worth noting that the new report comes shortly after Apple started manufacturing its new iPhone model i.e. iPhone 14 series in India. Earlier, reports suggested that Apple will start manufacturing the iPhone 14 series in India two months after the production starts in China. Reports had also suggested that the company will start manufacturing the iPhone 15 in India at the same time as it manufactures it in China. However, soon reports said that the production of the iPhone 14 had begun in India.
Apple is gradually increasing its production capacity in India. The company first started manufacturing iPhones in India in 2015.
