Apple launched the iPhone 14 Pro series in September, adding four new models to its lineup. This time, however, Apple widened the gap between Pro and non-Pro models based on not just looks but specifications. Next year, the gap may widen as a new report suggests that the top-model iPhone 15 Pro Max may come with 8GB of RAM and confirm that there will be a USB-C port instead of Lightning.

According to Taiwanese research firm, TrendForce, the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro will have a higher RAM capacity of 8GB as opposed to 6GB of RAM in the iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro. Next year’s iPhone lineup will continue to feature 6GB of RAM in non-Pro models, leading to a distinction between Pro and non-Pro models. It also said that the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro could probably use a better chipset – possibly the A17 Bionic, while the regular models could go with the A16 Bionic that was launched earlier this year.

trendforce also said That the Pro models in next year’s iPhone 15 lineup may come with an upgraded main camera lens with 8P design for better performance. However, the report did not discuss the camera specifications or their numbers for that matter. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, in particular, may come with a telephoto lens with periscope functionality that will allow users to use 10X optical zoom or higher. This is better than the current 3X zoom limit on the iPhone 15 Pro.

The report also states that the iPhone 15 models – all of them – will come with Qualcomm modem for 5G connectivity. This is because Apple is not satisfied with the performance of its in-house mmWave modem. TrendForce said that Apple is expected to launch its 5G modem sometime in 2024.
