Significantly, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models made between October 2020 and April 2021 are expected to be affected by the issue. Apple mentioned on its support page that those who have encountered this problem with the speakers on their device will be able to get the service for free.
iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro Service Program for ‘No Sound Issues’
Apple noted that the problem could be due to a component failure in the receiver module.
“Apple has determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro devices may experience noise problems due to a component that may fail in the receiver module. The affected devices were manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021.
If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro does not emit sound from the receiver when calling or receiving, it may be eligible for service, “Apple noted on its support page.
IPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro users who are experiencing problems can go to an Apple Authorized Service Provider, make an appointment at the Apple Retail Store, or contact Apple Support to arrange a mail-in service through the Apple Repair Center. IPhone users are advised to backup their data to iCloud or PC before repairing. Apple further notes that if there is any damage to the handset such as a cracked display or similar issues need to be fixed in advance.
The service program only covers iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models. The free service does not apply to iPhone 12 Mini or iPhone 12 Pro Max. On the support page, the company states that it may limit or limit repairs to the country of origin or purchase, and that the program does not extend the standard warranty coverage of the iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro.
