Premium budget smartphones including Apple’s iPhones have a distinct allure to them. It is not only the internals like a multi-camera setup, a powerful processor and a bright display, but it is also their design that makes them different from the smartphones available in the market right now. Despite their stunning design, many buyers put a cover over them with the idea of protecting them from the effects of a sudden fall.
While the idea appears novel, it robs the device of its beauty. Don’t get me wrong here. Some phone covers are meant to cover the luxurious back panels of phones, such as the Apple iPhone 13 or Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, but mostly they make these ultra-premium and uber-gorgeous smartphones look like other phones available. The crowded smartphone market right now.
But now, Apple has released a very clever and very subtle ad that explains why covers (every slightly more expensive ones) are a waste of money when it comes to iPhones.
In the ad titled ‘iPhone 13 edge’, an iPhone is placed on the edge of a table. It starts ringing and the vibrator eventually falls off the table. Normally, this would be a literal heartbreaking movement for the user. But in this case, the iPhone keeps ringing and vibrating, indicating that the device is not dead yet and does not need any replacement. There may be some repairs, but no replacement.
Apple doesn’t show what happens to the iPhone 13 after it falls off the table. Needless to say, it all depends on what kind of floor we are looking at and the height of the drop. But, what we do know is that the iPhone 13 in the video keeps on working even if it falls. You can watch the video here:
In case you haven’t figured it out yet, the ad is meant to convince users that their Apple iPhones may be getting a drop or two. “iPhone 13 with Ceramic Shield. Tougher than the glass of any smartphone. Relax, it’s the iPhone,” Apple says in the ad.
