All Realme 5G phones to support high-speed SA 5G network by October

Realme has announced that its entire lineup of 5G smartphones will support standalone 5G networks in India by October. It said that 85 percent of its smartphones already support SA, which is a high-speed 5G network that doesn’t latch onto 4G infrastructure to increase speeds. Instead, it uses a dedicated spectrum to deliver 5G speeds. In India, SA 5G will likely be available on 700MHz spectrum, which is only owned by Reliance Jio.

At the India Mobile Congress, Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth said that the company’s entire 5G lineup is compatible with the spectrum allocated to telecom providers. The company also announced that it has partnered with Indian telcos, Jio, Airtel, and Vi, as well as chip makers Qualcomm and MediaTek, to “democratize 5G in India”. Realme was the first brand to announce that it is working on a 5G phone under Rs 10,000, but did not share any additional details after that.

Sheth made this announcement just after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G in India in the presence of Mukesh Ambani of RIndustries, Sunil Bharti Mittal of Bharti Airtel and KM Birla of Aditya Birla Group. While Jio announced its 5G rollout in October, Airtel said that its 5G network is now live in eight cities including Delhi, Varanasi, Bengaluru and Kolkata.
