5G auction: Jio, Airtel, Vi start bidding in spectrum auction

India’s top telecom companies – Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea – have started bidding in the 5G spectrum auction in India along with the Adani Group. Together, the four companies have made a combined Earned Money Deposit (EMD) of Rs 21,400 crore ahead of the 5G auction, which is expected to generate around Rs 4.3 lakh crore for 5G airwaves in the 10 band 72GHz.

According to data shared by the government, Reliance Jio has deposited an EMD of Rs 14,000 crore, while Bharti Airtel has invested Rs 5,500 crore. On the other hand, Vodafone Idea has put in Rs 2,200 crore and Adani Group has put in Rs 100 crore for EMD.

In today’s auction, which began at 10 am and is likely to go on till 6 pm, 5G airwaves in the low, mid and high frequency bands will be up for bidding. These bands are 600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, and 2300 MHz for the low-frequency bands, 3300 MHz for the mid-frequency bands, and 26 GHz for the high-frequency bands.
